Churches Arming Themselves For Protection

Some pastors and congregation members are picking up more than their bibles to go to church these days. Some are packing heat. One local law enforcement agency wants places of worship to be properly prepared in case the unthinkable happens.

The Escambia County Florida Sheriff’s Office met with members of the community at Marcus Point Baptist Church tonight.
Members sat in church and listened for guidance on what to do during a gun attack. Church leaders are encouraged to form rapid response teams and undergo scenario based training in church. Many are re-evaluating church security.

The Escambia County Florida Sheriff’s Office encourages church members to “run, hide and fight.” If you can run out of the building safely, do that. If you can’t, find someplace to hide that will stop a bullet. If you can’t, then fight back.
The Escambia County Florida Sheriff’s office plans to hold another workshop in December.
