In tonight’s what’s working, we are focusing on BFF, or the Breast Friends Forever, Breast Cancer Support Group. The ladies meet once a month at the Mitchell Cancer Institute. This group was started five years ago, by breast cancer survivor, Darlene Chavers. She says, “Even though I had friends and family, they didn’t really know what I was going through.” Chavers started the group, and it has grown over the years.
The group is open to anyone who has had breast cancer, or who is currently in treatment. The support group offers a way for ladies (or men) to ask questions to fellow survivors. Cecilia Henderson says, “It makes it better when you can talk to a live person who has been here where you’ve been.”
If you are interested in attending a support group meeting, they meet the first Tuesday of the Month at the Mitchell Cancer Institute. Call Darlene Chavers with questions at (251)709-4022.
