Sailboat Smashed In Bayway Crash

A man from Georgia said he feels lucky to be alive after his weekend plans go sideways.  A two-car crash kept the Bayway closed for hours overnight.  This crash was a little unusual.  A sailboat ended up on the road and had to be lifted by a crane.  Brad Smith said he was driving from Columbus, Georgia to spend the weekend on Lake Ponchetrain.  He said he was rear-ended by a woman driving a Ford Explorer just before two this morning.

The mast of Brad Smith's boat was also on the trailer and damaged in the crash.

“Somebody ran into the back of me, the other driver ran into the back of me and the back of the boat the trailer started swerving we’re pretty lucky we didn’t go over the side both of us as well,” said Smith.  Smith was shaken up, but he said he should be okay.  The interstate was closed for hours during the overnight hours while the boat was moved out of the way.

We don’t have information yet on the other driver or exactly how this accident happened.  As we get more information we’ll update this story.
