A suspect has been arrested following a crime News 5 first reported last week, where homeowners came face-to-face with a burglar.
27-year-old Morris Bettis was caught by sheriff’s deputies over the weekend.
A family in Semmes says they came home to find Bettis’ car parked in their driveway and then confronted him outside.
Bettis left the scene, but a picture of the car started being circulated on Facebook and tips led deputies right to him.
Bettis has an extensive criminal history, mostly for burglary. He had just been released from federal prison in April. One month later he was arrested for another burglary and was out on bond for that offense.
Law enforcement is hoping he won’t be let out again anytime soon.
“Right and he is currently out on bond for two burglaries out of the city of mobile, so he will be held without bond until this week when he will go before a judge when we hope the court system will see this pattern and keep him in jail until his trial,” said Sgt. Joe Mahoney.
Bettis is set to appear before a judge Wednesday morning for an arraignment.
