5-Year-Old Hit, Killed by School Bus

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (AP) – Authorities say a 5-year-old student has been struck and killed by school bus after he dropped his books and stopped to try and pick them up on a county road in eastern Alabama.

Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson tells WSFA that the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday on a county road about 15 miles south of Tuskegee.

Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley tells Al.com that the school bus driver did not notice that the boy was trying to pick up his books and the bus ran into him.

Authorities say the child was a student at George Washington Carver Elementary School in Tuskegee. His name wasn’t released, and few other details of the crash were immediately available.

The TV station reports that Alabama State Troopers are investigating.
