Congressman Byrne Remembers Dr. Sid Phillips

Congressman Bradley Byrne took some time on the house floor in Washington yesterday to remember local veteran Dr. Sid Phillips.

Dr. Phillips passed away September 26, 2015. A Marine serving during World War II.. he’s best known for his role in Ken Burns’ PBS documentary “The War” and Steven Spielberg’s HBO series “The Pacific.” Phillips was also a successful family physician in Mobile.

Congressman Byrne said Dr. Phillips was one of the most well-known and respected veterans in Alabama.

“To many of us from the Mobile area, we remember Sid Phillips as a local family doctor, patriotic family man, and a strong advocate for our nation’s veterans. Mr. Speaker, on behalf of all my constituents in southwest Alabama, I want to share my condolences with Sid Phillips’ family and friends. He embodied the American spirit and he will be sorely missed,” said Byrne.

Phillips joined the Marines when he was just 17-years-old. He eventually wrote his own book called You’ll Be Sor-ree detailing his time in the service.
