City officials wouldn’t say what it is, but confirm a replacement is in the works for Bayfest.
“I think I can tell you that there will be something that weekend. What exactly we are talking about that now,” said City Communications Director George Talbot.
A meeting with about 20 people from cross sections of industry met Friday to discuss alternatives.
At this time they aiming for a two day event that would take place the Friday and Saturday originally slotted for Bayfest. They also want it to be musically focused with areas set aside for children.
“Absolutely, we want it free for the kids, for the family it’s just a way to get Mobilians to come downtown and do all the great quality of life that is here in the city,” said Mobile Bay CVB President Al Hutchinson.
Officials have not been able to confirm if any acts scheduled for Bayfest will still be able to perform.
They hope to have a definitive plan set by Monday.
