9-11 Fallen Heroes Memorial Dedicated at Battleship Park

Many people got their first look at the 9-11 Fallen Heroes Memorial–the newest memorial at Battleship Park.

146 names are inscribed on the wall of the memorial, the people from Alabama who died fighting the war on terror.  Family members of the fallen were in attendance, all with the same desire–that the service and sacrifice of their loved ones are not forgotten.

They included Pat and Ray Forester of Hayleyville, Al.  Their son Mark died in Afghanistan in 2010.  He was an Air Force Combat Controller.

The memorial project came to life in 2007, an idea by Battleship Park Commissioner Dr. Barry Booth.  He enlisted help from Marine Corps and Iraq War Veteran Nathan Cox.  Through eight and a half years both solicited support and funds for the project.

The ceremony included elementary school students and the Spanish Fort High School Band and a color guard from Daphne High School’s Air Force ROTC.
