Beware of Scams Affecting Mobile Customers

MOBILE- Scammers are targeting Alabama Power customers in the Mobile area. Based on what customers have told us, scammers are telling customers that their power bill is past due and their service is about to be terminated. In order to avoid an interruption in service, the customers are being instructed to go to a local retail store and purchase a pre-paid bank card for a certain amount. Customers are then asked to call a particular phone number and provide numeric codes from the back of the bank card. Scammers use the codes to retrieve the balance from the card.

Remember that Alabama Power will never contact you and ask for payment via a bank card. Additionally, we will never come to your door and demand payment nor will we ask you for your bank information or credit card information.

Alabama Power is working with law enforcement to investigate the recent scams. If you were contacted or if you have additional information about this scam, you should contact your local law enforcement agency or Alabama Power at (800) 245-2244.
