A sheriff’s deputy has died after being fatally shot while filling his patrol car at a Houston gas station. A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Harris County Sheriff’s spokesman Ryan Sullivan says Deputy Darren Goforth was pumping gas on Friday night when a man came up behind him and fired multiple shots. After the deputy fell down, the suspect continued to fire.
Goforth was pronounced dead at the scene.
An intense manhunt ensued following the shooting. At around 2:30am authorities arrived at a home on Crystal Lake in Copperfield led by a tip. The investigation was centered on the red pickup truck in the home’s driveway.
The suspect was taken into custody, but his identity has not been released. Goforth was a ten year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
