Shootings, Kidnapping Highlight Violent Mobile Weekend

It was a terribly violent weekend in Mobile, with police responding to at least 10 reports of violent crime.

Here are some of the incidents MPD’s weekend report:

On Friday, July 31, 2015, at approximately 7:23 p.m. officers responded to the 1400 block of Avon Circle for a report of One Shot.  The suspect stated he shot the victim, his son, in self-defense.  This case will be sent to the Grand Jury.

On Friday, July 31, 2015, at approximately 11:45 p.m. officers responded to the area of Knollwood Drive at Cottage Hill Road for a report of a Robbery to an Individual.  The victims stated a known male subject along with an unknown male subject armed with handguns demand their cell phones.

On Saturday, August 01, 2015, at approximately 6:06 a.m. officers responded to Shell 3351 Springhill Avenue for a report of a Robbery to an Individual.  The victim stated an unknown male subject robbed him and shot him once in the leg.

On Saturday, August 01, 2015, at approximately 9:05 a.m. officers responded to the area Octavia Drive at Wormeley Drive for a report of One Struck.  The victim stated arrested person, 78 year old Cleavear Beckles intentionally struck him with a vehicle following a verbal argument.

On Saturday, August 01, 2015, at approximately 9:03 p.m. officers responded to Dollar Tree 5301 Moffett Road for a report of a Commercial Robbery.  The victim stated an unknown male subject armed with a handgun demanded cash.

On Sunday, August 02, 2015, at approximately 4:05 p.m. officers responded to the 500 block of Westwood Drive for a report of Shots Fired into an Occupied Dwelling.  The victim stated an unknown person fired several shots into her residence.  The victim believed her ex-boyfriend is possibly responsible for this incident.

On Sunday, August 02, 2015, at approximately 7:50 p.m. officers responded to the 1300 block of Arlington Street for a report one shot.  Witnesses stated the victim was shot once in the chest in

On Monday, August 03, 2015 at approximately 3:00 a.m. officers responded to the 1000 block of S Ann Street for a report of a Kidnapping.  The victims stated arrested person 32 year old Kevin Young while armed with a gun demanded her to a drive to a second location where he released her unharmed.

Police say they do not believe any of the incidents are related.
