A Navarre Man is in the Santa Rosa County jail for allegedly shooting a man who attacked him while in a woman’s Escambia County home.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Dustin Cooper was with a woman at her trailer on Hilltop Road when another man visited.
The visitor, 26-year-old James Mills, identified himself as the woman’s ex-boyfriend. Mills entered the home uninvited and found Cooper hiding in a bedroom closet, police said.
A fight broke out, resulting in major injuries to Cooper’s face. As Mills was leaving the scene, Cooper fired a shot at him, hitting Mills in his motorcycle helmet and lower left portion of his face.
Mills was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for treatment.
Cooper was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Investigators say additional charges are pending in connection to the case.
