AJ McCarron may be the highest profile celebrity in Mobile today but he’s also humble as he gets ready to start his second full year in the NFL. Drills and running are very familiar for hometown hero AJ McCarron, while he takes part in his first annual football camp for kids, speculation is growing that AJ will get a coveted spot on the Bengals roster this year. I asked him: “What are the odds you will be the number one back-up quarterback this season?” His response:
“I don’t really think about all that, I just go out and play my game and try to help myself in whatever way I can. Just let the chips fall where they fall,” said McCarron. Despite having standout seasons at Alabama as quarterback, AJ has yet to play a down as a pro for Cincinnati. He spent much of last year coping with a shoulder injury.
“I mean you look at the success rate for guys that play right off the bat in the NFL and it’s not great, so I’ll take my chances sitting and learning and when I get my opportunity I’ll make the most of it,” said McCarron. Recently former Bama teammates Wallace Gilberry and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix praised McCarron’s potential to be a key player.
“Every other teammate that’s said something I greatly appreciate it I can never thank them enough I hope I can live up to the way they see me and play my game,” said McCarron.
