The body discovered buried in a wooded area of George County earlier this month has been identified as a teenager from Mobile County.
The George County Sheriff’s Office says Michael Christopher Wilkins, 17, of Theodore was identified through DNA testing.
Two weeks ago, 28-year-old Josh Brandon Vallum of George County was arrested for the murder of Wilkens.
Wilkins’ body was found on June 2 after police received a tip that someone had been killed and buried in a wooded area off Odom Road in the Rocky Creek Community in Lucedale.
Going off the provided information, investigators found the body as it had been described. The body was transported to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office, where DNA testing would later confirm Wilkins identity.
Vallum is said to have ties to Jackson County. He turned himself in to the George County Sheriff’s Office on June 2, where he was charged with murder and booked into George Regional Jail.
The motive for the alleged murder is unknown at this time, police said. The cause of death is unknown.
