Beach Visitors in Baldwin County are experiencing better surf conditions. After nearly one week of dangerous rip currents, yellow flags are now flying in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Waves are much smaller, and currents are not as strong. Several people have been pulled from the choppy Gulf over the last few days. Rip currents can still be present in yellow flag conditions. The U.S. National Weather Service tweeted a YouTube video showing how a rip current pulls water from the shore and creates a dangerous channel. A group in Australia used purple dye to make the video.
WKRG’s Debbie Williams also talked to lifeguards about how to spot a rip current. You can watch her story here.
