UPDATE as of 5:45 P.M. – WKRG has now learned rescuers pulled two people from the waters near the pier this afternoon, not three as we were originally told. We are told a teenager was in distress and an older man went into the water to help. Both ended up in a dangerous situation.
ORIGINAL POST:Lifeguards rushed to rescue three swimmers in distress this afternoon near the Gulf State Park Pier in Gulf Shores. WKRG News 5 staff members, Debbie Williams and Jason Garcia ,noticed the rescue crews screaming and running on the beach around 5:00 p.m. Rescuers were able to pull all three swimmers from the Gulf of Mexico. Water conditions today are dangerous. Red flags have been up all day indicating high surf and strong rip currents. The dangerous beach conditions are expected all weekend along Baldwin County’s beaches. News 5’s Debbie Williams will provide an update tonight on News 5 at 6:00 p.m.
