Arrest Made in George County Murder After Body Found in Woods

Josh Brandon Vallum, 28 of George County remains behind bars charged with this murder.

A murder suspect has been arrested after police discovered a body buried in a wooded area of George County.

George County Sheriff’s investigators have announced the arrest of 28-year-old Josh Brandon Vallum of George County for the alleged murder of the victim.

Authorities say early Tuesday morning they received information that someone had been killed and buried in a wooded area off Odom Road in the Rocky Creek Community in Lucedale.  The tipster also claimed the murder occurred over the weekend.

Going off the provided information, investigators found the body as it had been described. The body of the individual, whose identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified, was transported to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Vallum is said to have ties to Jackson County.  He turned himself in Tuesday night to the George County Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with murder and booked into George Regional Jail.

The motive for the alleged murder is unknown at this time, police said.

Vallum is yet to make his first court appearance.
