Some students in Semmes have learned a lifesaving procedure. Nearly 300 students at Semmes Middle School are CPR certified. The students are part of a career readiness curriculum at the school. They are fully CPR certified by the American Red Cross.

Health sciences instructor Cynthia Gilmore says, “I am not saying they would do perfect CPR. They are young, but I want to encourage them, when you start CPR, it doesn’t matter if you are 12, 13, or 14. Even adults don’t know how to do this. Take charge and what you are trained to do.”

Semmes Middle School is one of the only middle schools in the state to offer CPR to the students.
