Umpires play a major role in sporting events across the world. But not many people realize the amount of time they spend training for these events.
The Statewide High School Umpires Camp kicked off their annual training in Mobile this Thursday. More than 70 umpires from all over the state participated in training sessions held at various baseball fields in the city.
Several high school teams are participating in timed scrimmages all day Friday and Saturday, while umpires are being observed, trained, and evaluated.
This is the first time Mobile has hosted this annual camp. Camp will close Sunday with a breakfast at 9 a.m.
