About 4,000 cars traveled the Baldwin Beach Express each day when it opened last July.
In the fall, the average, daily traffic count was 7,000 cars. Now, more than 12,000 vehicles use the highway each day.
Traffic will only increase. The Baldwin County Highway Dept. says within the next two or three years, as many as 20,000 cars could use the Baldwin Beach Express on a daily basis.
Highway department officials say the express is doing what it’s supposed to do- alleviate some of the traffic gridlock on Highway 59 as drivers head south to the beach.
