The city of Foley and Blue Collar Country developer Glenn Bilbo have partnered to complete Phase 1, which will include a 27 million dollar sportsplex, Hilton Garden Inn and conference center.
The Foley Sports Tourism Complex will accommodate high school and college soccer, football, basketball, volleyball and lacrosse tournaments.
Last summer, Blue Collar Country developers bought 500 acres of land on the Foley Beach Express and announced they would build an entertainment destination backed by Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall.
Developers still hope to build the attraction, but it could take years.
Phase 1 could be open by Spring 2015. The Sports Tourism Complex could pump an additional 38 million dollars a year into Foley's economy.
